The Brazilian
Society of Angiology and Vascular Surgery (SBACV) has been growing each
day, both in number and in the academic qualification of its members.
On the other hand, the SBACV has faced important challenges regarding
our professional practice and has won many battles of an endless war,
thanks to a great number of colleagues who are entirely committed to
this mission. The previous board of directors, headed by Marcio Leal
de Meirelles and Liberato Karaoglan de Moura, managed a constructive
transition, based on solidarity and companionship, reflecting our high
level of maturity.
It has been my duty, as Editor in chief of J Vasc, together with Francisco
Leandro Araújo Jr. and Guilherme Benjamin Brandão Pitta,
to coordinate the scientific publications of SBACV. This project, step
by step, walks towards its consolidation, which will only be fully achieved
with the support of all members. We ought to break with this tradition
of sparse publications and this constant valorization of almost everything
that comes from abroad. This behavior hinders self-improvement as well
as the improvement of the SBACV as whole. Our Society needs to grow
scientifically in order to become well known among other societies,
avoiding, therefore, this increasing invasion of our fields.
As in any society, there are, of course, diverse interests, some apparently
conflicting, others merely disconnected, in other words, individuals
walking alone in a same direction while they could be walking side by
side. Reconciling these interests has been an arduous task for many
of us at the SBACV, but we will be able to manage it.
Our SBACV has already obtained sponsorship for the production and publication
of two scientific journals. The Regional Bureau of Rio de Janeiro of
the SBACV has recently taken a solidary decision, as it was announced
by president Sergio Meirelles on his column "Words from the President"
published in Jornal Vascular, issue number 1 (2004). In this article,
he officially recognized J Vasc Br as the only SBACV journal specifically
directed to scientific publication. According to the Editor, José
Amorim de Andrade, the publications released by the Regional Bureau
of Rio de Janeiro, from now on, will be strictly directed to professional
defense, medical practice and new topics on the speciality, as well
as job market; "having as a thermometer the relevance of these
issues within our professional practice". This fact has only occurred
because the SBACV has grown mature and this maturity will certainly
make each of us grow. We could even say that "by joining efforts
will be able to increase the vascular flow", the flow of works
in Vascular Surgery and Angiology.
On the other hand, being São Paulo the State with the highest
number of members, medical schools, residency and postgraduate programs,
besides the most representative "vascular critical mass",
it is obvious that its much decisive presence and participation are
absolutely necessary for J Vasc Br to grow and to consolidate.
The president of the Regional Bureau of São Paulo, Cid Sitrângulo
Jr., certainly includes J Vasc Br when he mentions the "primordial
goals of a Society of speciality". The most expressive leadership
as well as the emerging generation from various States seem to agree
with Cid Sitrângulo Jr., since they have verbalized this feeling.
We are now inviting all members to join us in pursue of the greatest
challenge of the year to be achieved by J Vasc Br. The indexation in
Scielo requires, as a prerequisite, the publication of 16 articles in
the next issue. This seems to be an impossible mission, at first sight.
However, if all of us join together, J Vasc Br will be able to achieve
it.
You are invited to join us. Your presence is fundamental for us to achieve
our major goal.
