The goals
of J Vasc Br for 2003 were announced in the editorial of the
first number of volume 2 of this publication. At the end of the year,
we are happy to announce that we reached all of our goals with the help
of innumerous collaborators. We attained the regularity of the production,
edition, printing and distribution phases through a harmonious integration
between those involved. We would like to thank each and every one of
you for such hard work.
One of the high points for the J Vasc Br during 2003 was the
publication of three Symposiums. The first was about the 'Diabetic Foot',
the second about 'Medicine and Law' and the third about 'Medical Education',
coordinated respectively by the professors Nelson De Luccia, Jorge R.
R. Timi and Emil Burihan & Marília Panico. The importance
of these publications is of such a great magnitude that it cannot be
properly described in a superficial and brief analysis. Rather, its
importance will be reflected in the upcoming results and productions
of the Brazilian Society of Angiology and Vascular Surgery (SBACV) over
the mid- and long-term. In addition, the continuous publication of such
material is likely to extend a helping hand toward the growth of our
Society.
During 2003, the 'Diagnosis Challenge' and 'Therapeutic Challenge' sections
were also created, coordinated respectively by colleagues João
Luiz Sandri and Fausto Miranda Jr. These sections can serve as an object
of study for many colleagues who deal with challenges during clinical
practice. We also feel it will increasingly become important for other
colleagues to actively participate by sending us their contributions.
The 'New Publications' section, coordinated by colleague Ricardo C.
R. Moreira, focuses on the analysis of books by national authors to
divulge and valorize what is published in our country. Along these lines,
we suggest that when submitting their work to J Vasc Br, authors
also consult the Brazilian Angiology and Vascular Surgery Bibliographic
Index. If there are national contributions for a researched theme, it
is highly recommended that such sources be cited. This is, as a matter
of fact, the policy followed by the scientific publications in the country
that is the world leader in this area. We remind you of the express
invitation in an article that we already published in the Revista
de Cirurgia Vascular e Angiologia (Vascular Surgery and Angiology
Jornal) in 1994 under the title "Cite to grow, growing together".1
Finally, there are two relevant facts that should be communicated. The
first addresses the index maintenance of our official publication in
the LILACS database. The second fact addresses the consolidation of
the English-language version of the electronic journal, avaliable at:
www.jvascbr.com.br.
We have reserved a special piece of news for the last paragraphs, something
that fills us with joy and which can be considered a "holiday gift"
from SBACV: the print publication of the Brazilian Vascular Journal.
From now on, the work of colleagues published in the journal will be
received by 250 foreign names of reference through the English version.
These works will also arrive to the libraries of Brazilian Medical Schools
and all official Residence Services in the country.
At the moment that we close an important phase of our activities, as
Editor-in-Chief of J Vasc Br, I feel it is important to comment
that if there was a good deal of inspiration that went into the creation
of this publication, the dose of perspiration for its actual execution
was much higher in order for us to successfully carry out this SBACV
editorial project. If someone asks if it was worth the effort, I would
say yes. I am thrilled that we were able to make such an achievement
on behalf of our specialization.
With 2003 winding to an end, we wish all colleagues, associates and
members of SBACV much peace and happiness.
