We begin this new year by editing the first issue of Jornal Vascular Brasileiro,
second volume, whose deadline for publication is March 30. We have to work with
deadlines so that the reliability of our project can be ensured. First of all,
we would like to thank authors and reviewers, who have tried to meet the proposed
deadlines, Scientific Linguagem, in charge of production, for its efficient service,
and MedPress, for the printing and distribution of our journal. Our special thanks
to all those who have openly participated and to several others who remain anonymous.
This year, three symposia on topics that are extremely relevant to the Brazilian
Society of Angiology and Vascular Surgery (SBACV) are to be published. The first
one of the series - the Symposium on Diabetic Foot - is found in the current issue
of our journal. This symposium was led by Prof. Nelson De Luccia. In addition
to his dedication , we would also like to thank all those colleagues who participated
in the symposium. The present issue will be distributed to 3,000 endocrinologists,
according to SBACV policy of informing our members and the members of the Brazilian
Society of Endocrinology and Metabology of the importance of diabetic foot. This
way, Jornal Vascular Brasileiro fulfills its educational and social objectives
by drawing the attention of patients, physicians and specialists to this problem,
offering benefits to all of them.
The other symposia will be published
in upcoming issues 2 and 3. One of them will deal with Civil Responsibility and
will be conducted by Prof. Jorge R. R. Timi; the other one, led by Prof. Emil
Burihan, will focus on Teaching Medical Specialties in Brazil.
The present
issue has three new features. The first one concerns the publication of the Diagnostic
Challenge and Therapeutic Challenge sections, whose aim is to provide our readers
with small "challenges"- an image, as in the first section, or a clinical
case (second section) - inviting the readers to come up with their own solution
to the problem. Since it is a challenge, each and every reader may solve it in
a different manner - and this is the true objective of these sections. The first
challenge will be presided over by Prof. João Luiz Sandri and the second
one, by Prof. Fausto Miranda Jr. Any contributions are welcome. The next new feature
is the publication of a Previous Note, by Dr. Adalberto Pereira de Araújo
who, in the era of new and costly technologies, tries to revive the first therapeutic
attempt, which is still viable, efficient and inexpensive. The last but not least
new feature is the section called New Publications, guided by Dr Ricardo C. R.
Moreira, which opens up the opportunity for our peers to comment any new publication
they have read and which they would recommend. We do encourage this type of contribution
from all of our readers.
We call upon all of our peers to get involved
in the process of growth and advertisement of Jornal Vascular Brasileiro. This
journal is of great importance to the dissemination of scientific publications
in vascular medicine, both in Brazil and abroad (the English version of the journal
is available at out website).
Once again, our thanks to those who collaborated
with Jornal Vascular Brasileiro last year and who will certainly do so in 2003.
