We
are approaching the end of 2002 with the third issue of Jornal Vascular Brasileiro,
official publication of the Brazilian Society of Angiology and Vascular Surgery.
In
the third issue, we shall confine our attention to the publication of three original
papers on critical limb ischemia, introduced by the magnificent editorial written
by Dr. Arno von Ristow. Other similar articles are under way, showing the robustness
of vascular surgery in Brazil.
We
would like to thank the contribution of two members of the International Advisory
Board, Prof. Roberto Chiesa, from Milan, and Prof. Américo Dinis da Gama,
from Lisbon, whose articles aggrandize J Vasc Br and show the interest that our
journal has aroused overseas.
We
received a request from Portugal for reprint of one of the articles published
in our second issue, which consolidates the harmonious relationship between vascular
communities of Brazil and Portugal.
The
current issue also brings the final conclusions of the 13th Forum promoted by
the Brazilian Society of Angiology and Vascular Surgery under the title of Temas
controversos na profilaxia e no tratamento do tromboembolismo venoso (Controversial
issues on the prophylaxis and treatment of venous thromboembolism - available
in Portuguese only). This publication has been one of the priorities of J Vasc
Br.
We
are happy to inform that the next issue will have a new section called "Images
in Angiology and Vascular Surgery," suggested and coordinated by Dr. João
Luis Sandri. Those interested in collaborating can send an image with the clinical
history and diagnostic hypothesis, within the context of therapeutic challenge.
The position of the author who sends the image will be published on the subsequent
page. Another section under the name of "Therapeutic Challenge" will
be created. This section shall contain a brief history and report of clinical
and complementary exams with pertinent suggestions. The Editor hopes to share
the possibilities of treatment of a clinical situation with his peers, since the
complexity involved calls for an in-depth discussion.
We
shall also celebrate the J Vasc Br site, which can be accessed at www.jvascbr.com.br.
By accessing the site, our colleagues may obtain information about other publications
with which J Vasc Br has established close collaboration, namely the European
Journal of Endovascular and Vascular Surgery, from England, Cirujanos Vasculares
de Habla Hispana, from Spain, and Annals of Surgery, from the United States. New
links shall be announced shortly.
We
shall announce the publication of two symposia: one on Diabetic Foot, coordinated
by Prof. Nelson de Luccia, and the other one on Civil Responsibility, coordinated
by Prof. Jorge Timi. In addition, a Symposium on Specialty Teaching, coordinated
by emeritus Prof. Emil Burihan, will also be published after extensive ongoing
research into the topic. This way, J Vasc Br meets the authors' demand and covers
important topics for the Brazilian Society of Angiology and Vascular Surgery and
its members, following the line of development pursued by president Meirelles.
We
would like to thank all those who submitted articles for publication and also
those who volunteered to revise the articles, a praiseworthy task that should
not go unnoticed. On the other hand, we want to invite those who have not participated
in the editorial process to feel at ease to do so, since J Vasc Br is yours and
your scientific contribution may be quite useful to other professionals, who can
use this knowledge in their medical practice.
As
we approach the end of the year, we would like to wish you and your families all
the best, as well as a merry and peaceful Christmas.
Happy
New Year!
