To start with, I would like to quote Professor Pedro P. Leão: "The results of scientific research have to be publicized as the author should not seize the ownership of a piece of work that is useful to others. The aim of scientific communication is to have publications read.

In the 1970's, Professor Zerbini said that when one has a message that can be useful to others, one should convey it, since other patients can benefit from disseminated knowledge.

This is one of the landmarks of J Vasc Br. Our journal is a specialized publication in the process of growing and expanding, with a great number of professionals who have finished their residency or posgraduate programs. In addition to these professionals, who should be continually encouraged to have their work published, as a form of reaffirmation and as an institutional commitment, there are "mature" specialists, with 20 to 30 years' experience. These professionals can act as moderators, showing the younger ones that experience teaches better than immediate information.

I would like to underscore that J Vasc Br is a journal that is still in the process of adjustment and expansion. Some changes, such as the insertion of an abstract in English in all the articles published in Portuguese and vice-versa, have already been implemented.

The title of this editorial is corroborated by the current issue of the journal. Professor Maffei had sent his article on August 15 at 11 a.m. However, in the afternoon of that very day, as he received the latest issue of Thromb Haemost with some important novelties, he decided to include them in his article. On the same day, at 3:45 p.m., the updated version of his article was received at J Vasc Br. This exemplifies the "dynamics" of our journal, a feature our readers can really take good advantage of.

It is with pleasure that I announce our first online issue in English, which can be accessed at www.jvascbr.com.br.

We foster the interchange of information by means of links to other journals, so that the work of Brazilian authors extends beyond our boundaries and can be shared among readers on a worldwide basis.

Due to the publication of the Prevention Of Venous Thromboembolism consensus coordinated by Prof. Nicolaides and to the publication of another five articles on thromboembolism, SBACV decided to send copies of the present issue to 2,800 members of the Brazilian Society of Pneumology and 800 copies to the Brazilian Society of Hematology, thus enhancing our relationship with two other societies whose work bears close resemblance to ours.

Since J Vasc Br is an institutional project undertaken by SBACV, with no cost to vascular surgery residents, we ask those institutions that have not sent us the names and addresses of their current resident doctors to do so as soon as possible; this way, all of them will be receving our journal. We also welcome the names and addresses of physicians in related areas who are interested in knowing the area of vascular surgery in more detail.

We gladly inform you that J Vasc Br ISSN is 1677-5449. This is the international standard serial number number which identifies periodical publications as such.

Now, our next challenge is to have our journal indexed. This is a joint work, so we rely on your very best.
