In keeping with the times, the Brazilian Society of Angiology and Vascular Surgery (SBACV) has just released a new vehicle for scientific advancement - Jornal Vascular Brasileiro (or J Vasc Br). A new title, a new organizational structure and a more encompassing editorial board will give continuity to the journals that preceded J Vasc Br and carry on the important mission of promoting the scientific production of the Society and of welcoming relevant works from other sources on angiology and vascular surgery.

As an official organ, Jornal Vascular Brasileiro will strive to be the expression of the progress and maturity reached by SBACV in its 50 years of existence, representing the society with dignity before the cultural environment surrounding it.

It is known that only a few scientific journals are able to prosper; the editors of our journal are aware of the true dimension of the obstacles that must be overcome. However, they count on the support and ongoing collaboration of all SBACV members, especially those with links to universities and teaching institutions, who are by nature committed to research and teaching activities. This new journal can be a vigorous stimulus to spread the rich production of such institutions and thus contribute towards the dissemination of knowledge and the democratization of information.

J Vasc Br will be distributed to professionals from other related specialties, since several symposia that are of interest to these fields will frequently be published. Therefore, by promoting our work within other specialty fields, J Vasc Br will also contribute to broaden the range of action of our specialists.

To achieve the desired level of excellence, Jornal Vascular Brasileiro will depend on the integrated efforts of all of us - and we are committed to responding to this significant challenge.
